Driver Jailed After Drinking Champagne in Work Van

North Yorkshire Police released footage on February 8 showing a man swigging champagne, rolling a cigarette, and chatting on the phone while driving on the A65 near Ingleton at speeds of up to 50 mph. Mason James Cowgill pleaded guilty to dangerous driving in court, and was sentenced to eight months in prison and disqualified from driving for 32 months, police said. Police said the 27-year-old was driving his work van on June 7, 2021, when he crashed into another car, prompting his employer to review the in-cab footage. Police Constable Babs Parsons said: “Cowgill is lucky he did not kill or seriously injure someone that day. The manner in which he drove demonstrated a clear danger to other road users and I’m amazed he did not cause any more collisions.” Credit: North Yorkshire Police via Storyful
