Italian Rugby Federation extends Bitpanda main sponsorship deal until 2023

The Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) has extended its main sponsorship with cryptocurrency exchange platform Bitpanda until the end of 2023.

The deal keeps the Austrian-based company as the main shirt sponsor of the Italian men’s national rugby team until the end of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, as well as designating Bitpanda as the main sponsor of the Italian women’s national team and under-20 age group side.

The partnership with the women’s team kicks in for the ongoing 2022 Six Nations campaign, and also covers the women’s 2022 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, which gets underway in October.

The broad contract also sees Bitpanda become the inaugural title sponsor for Italian rugby union’s elite women’s Serie A domestic competition from the start of the 2022/23 season.

Bitpanda first partnered with the FIR ahead of the men’s 2022 Six Nations championship and wants to leverage the deal to bolster its presence in the Italian market, where it claims to have more than 100,000 users.

The FIR’s previous main sponsorship deal with insurance firm Cattolica Assicurazioni, signed in 2018 and worth a reported seven figures, was terminated early, allowing Bitpanda to snap up the inventory.

“Bitpanda’s choice to continue by our side as the main sponsor of the federation and our national teams, and also to support us as the title sponsor of our top women’s championship, could not be more consistent with the vision of the game that we want to implement in our country,” said Marzio Innocenti, president of the FIR.

“We are happy to continue working with a partner who has shown that they believe in the path we have taken, and that they want to share it with us.”
