NBL finals Kings vs Hawks: Dave Hughes leaks Erin Molan text about Chase Buford

Erin Molan had every right to blush when radio co-star David Hughes revealed the text she sent about a “handsome” guest on their show.

Erin Molan covered the NRL for more than a decade but she says her experience at the NBL semi-finals on the weekend rivalled anything she enjoyed during her time in rugby league.

The former Nine presenter was at Qudos Bank Arena as the Sydney Kings booked their spot in the grand final, beating the Illawarra Hawks 99-87 to seal a 2-0 result in the best-of-three series.

Sydney coach Chase Buford was interviewed by 2DayFM’s Morning Crew of Molan, Dave Hughes and Ed Kavalee on Monday morning when some awkward truths were exposed.

Molan, who split up with fiance Sean Ogilvy last year, said she had a great time at the game with her young daughter and joked about the influence she had on the Kings’ win, before Hughes threw his co-star under the bus by revealing what she really thought of the team’s coach.

Hughes: “Chase, one more just to pump your tyres up, I did get a text from Erin talking about how hot you are. How do you feel about that?”

Molan: “Chase, I know you’re taken and I’m not … he’s very happily (taken). I just was making an observation that you’re very handsome.”

Buford: “Oh well I appreciate that.”

The topic of Molan’s text message continued to be discussed after Buford got off the line.

“I actually thought you’d get angry at me for talking about that text message, but you doubled down on it,” Hughes said.

Molan replied: “No, well I’m going to get angry at you once we go off air because that was a complete breach of my privacy!”

There were laughs all around suggesting Molan wasn’t too upset about Hughes going rogue.

Molan was the subject for more of Hughes’ jokes elsewhere in the segment, as the comedian questioned Buford about what effect her sideline presence had on the Kings.

“You want the team not to be distracted. Are you going to speak to the (Kings) owner … and say, ‘We’ve got to be careful about who we allow to sit in these floor seats’?” Hughes said.

“Because Erin Molan, how much did she distract the team yesterday?”

Molan was happy to take the mickey out of herself.

“I think the issue for me was I had my three-and-a-half year-old on my lap the whole time, so that was a little bit of a mood killer,” she said.

“But as the guys walked off I was trying to make eyes just to smile and be encouraging and only one player acknowledged me and that was from the Hawks.

“Was there any kind of — I don’t want to be self-indulgent here — but like at halftime did anyone mention I was there? Was it maybe a motivating factor for anyone?”

Buford joked that instead of reviewing clips of the actual game, “we cut right to a shot of you on the sideline” to motivate the Kings.

The Kings will face either Melbourne United or the Tasmania JackJumpers in the season decider.
