Sydney FC to host Brisbane Roar in FFA Cup

Sydney FC defender James Donachie is keen to bring down his former club Brisbane Roar in the FFA Cup.

Sydney FC defender James Donachie says some much-needed momentum is building in the Sky Blues camp after a slow start to the season.

It took five rounds but Sydney finally won for the first time in the A-League this season on Sunday, beating Wellington Phoenix 2-1 at Jubilee Stadium.

“With wins comes a lot more positivity and momentum for the fans so we were thrilled for them,” Donachie told his club’s website.

While Sydney’s A-League form has been indifferent, they have reached the FFA Cup quarter-finals and can advance to the final four with a win on Wednesday night at Jubilee Stadium over one of Donachie’s former clubs, Brisbane Roar.

“I had really good memories when I was there,” said Donachie, who was part of the Roar’s 2013-14 championship-winning squad.

“I haven’t seen too much on them this year but we’ll do our video and analysis work on them and then we’ll go out there to win at all costs.”

Donachie, 28, is in his first campaign with the Sky Blues after spending last season in the Indian Super League with FC Goa.

“I’m loving it here,” he said.

“The weather here is nice, the team and everyone else here at the club has been very welcoming and we have a great culture here so I’m really enjoying it.”
