US secretary of state arrives in Melbourne

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken has touched down in Melbourne as he begins his trip across the Indo-Pacific.

The whirlwind visit to Australia is part of a push to shore up solidarity in the face of increasing tensions in the region.

His three-day visit will include a Quad meeting which involves leaders from Australia, India, Japan and the United States.

China and Russia’s new “no limits” partnership to stand up to the West will be at the top of the agenda at tomorrow’s talks.
